Crimson Use Speed and Strength to Top Anoka

Crimson too strong and fast for Anoka in 76-50 win.

The Anoka Tornadoes took the back road to Fernbrook Lane looking to catch the Crimson flat after their loss to Osseo.  Well, that wasn't going to happen as the Crimson got off early, behind the slashing layups of Jake Wieneke and Erik Olson's points in the paint.  Brycen Wojta was able to drive, draw and dish with regularity as the Crimson built a big lead. Olson got a number of touches and they let the big dog eat, scoring 17 points in the first 13 minutes. On the other end, Anoka was chasing the fool's gold of the 3 point shot and for a while they were cashing in.  They made 8 three point attempts in the first half and closed the lead to 47-36 at the half.

The control of the remote went back to Mitch Rekstad as he beat his brother, Isaac, and Jebba for the halftime shootout.

Anoka went to a 1-3-1 zone that slowed the Crimson's half court game, but the Crimson were able to score in transition.  The Tornadoes only made one three in the second half.  Those misses often led to this play-by-play.  ....Anoka missed shot, rebound Crimson, outlet  pass, another pass to half court, one dribble and layup or kick-out three.  Pretty soon the lead widened to 65-45 and people were heading home to watch "Biggest Loser" reruns. The final was 76-50.

Olson was 11 for 13 as he finished with a career high 25 points to go with 9 rebounds and 4 blocks.  Wieneke's 20 points came on a variety of drives to the rim that were como sada.  Wojta finished with 18 points and 6 assists, including some sweet inside-the-paint passes.

When this team can continue to get balanced scoring and solid defense, they can be really tough.  That is why the last two weeks of the season can be a sign of things to come.  Stay tuned.
