Crimson Shooting Brought Rain in Easy Win

Crimson cruise to easy win, face the Orioles on Friday.

Coon Rapids came to Maple Grove as one of the two teams in 4A without a win. Their hope was to catch the Crimson looking ahead to the Osseo game.  They hoped to get into a game that would end up in the 30s.  They came out in a 1-3-1 zone and packed it in, daring the Crimson to shoot from the outside.  For quite a while it was 8-3 good guys.  The Crimson got a few transition baskets to break it open and yet was 31-12 at the half. The Cardinals headed into the locker room hoping the Crimson would cool off and they could crawl back in.

The halftime contest featured a family duel. DJ, Mary, and Dave Reckstad were looking to knock off 'The Sniper', sophomore brother Mitch.  But DJ won, so now has bragging rights at home and control of the remote.

That was the only thing close to a contest as the Crimson came out and threw up wet jump shots to extend the lead to 48-15. Elliot Kane found his board on the floor and knocked down 3 tres in a short time.  All of the sudden, it was 60-18 at the end of a 29-6 run. The Cardinals played with emotion and young guys got some experience on both sides. This writer knows that rebuilding high school athletic programs requires the patience of Job. The Cardinals shot only 28 times and scored 22 points which is a Crimson team record for least points allowed. The Crimson were 10 for 21 from three point range.

Congratulations to Brycen Wojta as he is now the Crimson career scoring leader, surpassing Greg Martin during the Champlin Park game.  Check out the MN Basketball Hub for another story with Brycen.
