Crimson Fall to Orioles in Physical, Well Played Game

Orioles use big 3 down the stretch to top the Crimson.

The rematch of the Maple Grove/Osseo boys game took place at the Osseo gym last night. The buildup to the game was big and the quality of play didn't disappoint the loyals of both teams. Both teams were able to hit some buckets early and the game had a bit of a flow. Plenty of contact resulted in fouls or no-calls, depending on what side of the gym you sat on. Remember that when a game is officiated properly, every time the whistle blows, half the gym is angry.

The Crimson attacked the hoop and were able to get Osseo is a bit of foul trouble. The Orioles were whistled for 14 first half fouls, while the Crimson only had four. Osseo led 37-31 at the half.

Bridge Tusler was able to get to the glass and scored 4 straight to give the Orioles a 37-34 lead, Basketball momentum can change quickly and after Brandon Barta's tip in, the Crimson were down two. When Erik Olson filled the lane and scored his second layup, the game was tied. Jake Wieneke finished with flair, and the Orioles had seen enough. Shortly after the timeout, a technical foul on the Orioles found Brycen Wojta at the line to give the Crimson a 51-49 lead. The Crimson didn't score on the ensuing trip. The Orioles got a big lift with the biggest hoop of the night when Matt Miedtke rubbed off a high screen and hit an NBA three. It was his only shot in the game. The Crimson didn't score on the next trip and the Orioles pounded the rock inside and were successful. Ian Theisen was able to finish inside down the stretch. He was 13 for 16 in a near Walton-esque perfomance. (Google: Walton, NCAA Final 1977). The Crimson had open shots but their shooting failed them during a key stretch. Matt Lindgren, who finished the game with 10 points was able to keep the Crimson in the hunt. His three made it 62-58, but the Orioles were able to spread the floor and get the matchups they liked on the block. Malik Wilson's tip in on the 3rd Oriole attempt, made it 66-60. That was another big basket and made it hard for the Crimson to catch up.
