Crimson Cruise to Easy Victory 68-44

Outcome decided early in Crimson rout.

In a game that was over shortly after the National Anthem, the Crimson improved their record to 6-4 overall and 4-2 in the Northwest Suburban in a 68-44 win over winless Coon Rapids. The Crimson jumped out to a 10-1 start, and the Cardinals took a timeout. After that, they outscored the Crimson 8-2 with 8 minutes to play in the first half. Then, the tide turned to the Crimson (sorry). Erik Olson scored on a nifty pass from Austin Paul. Paul, in his best game as a Crimson led the assault in the first half with a variety of jump shots. Brandon Barta and Elliot Kane combined for a hat trick of 3 pt plays, including Kane's long tre from the wing off the window. By the way, he did not call board. Coon Rapids struggled getting up shots (36 for the game), and the margin widened in a hurry. Maple Grove outscored the Cardinals 27-6 as the half ended 39-15. Halftime didn't improve the quality of play as turnovers, poor shots, and a pair of technical fouls were part of the first 9 minutes. At times, this game resembled something that Naismith never intended, including the hard candy and volleyball tossed on the court. All 18 Crimson players saw action, 11 of them scoring, as the lead ballooned to 64-34 in the last 4 minutes. The final score was 68-44 in a game that was not as close as the score indicated. Paul finished with 12 points, Jake Sterling 11 both top marks for their careers. Jake Wieneke and Kane both had 10. The Crimson have a home game Thursday against Elk River. Elk River has only one conference loss. They beat Champlin Park last night and will be a tough opponent for the Crimson.
