WhirlyBall Twin Cities Prepares for Maple Grove Opening

The new entertainment venue is located at the former Mann Theatre building.

Nearly a year after the Maple Grove City Council approved plans that gave WhirlyBall Twin Cities permission to re-occupy the Maple Grove Cinema (Mann Theatre) building, the new entrainment venue could be opening soon.

“We should be wrapping up construction in the next couple weeks and hoping to open very shortly thereafter.  We can't wait,” WhirlyBall owner Nick Lambrecht wrote in an email to Maple Grove Patch March 7, 2013.

WhirlyBall is a game where two teams of five players use a lacrosse stick and a ball to try to score a goal. The catch? Players toss the ball while driving bumper cars, or "WhirlyBugs."

The proposed plan presented to the city in 2012 has WhirlyBall filling most of the 33,000 square foot building, leaving 3,900 square feet of vacant space that could be leased to another business at a later date.  In addition to the WhirlyBall arena, the plans included a sports bar and dining area, laser-tag arena and meeting party rooms.

As the business continues to get ready to open, WhirlyBall is hiring as well for the location at 13644 80th Circle North in Maple Grove, according to their website. Check out the WhirlyBall website for details.
