Winter Weather Advisory Issued For Maple Grove, Hennepin County

The National Weather Service says freezing drizzle, snow, slippery roads, strong winds and wind chills of 15 to 20 below zero are expected through noon Saturday.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Hennepin County, which includes Maple Grove, and other areas of the state of Minnesota.

The advisory was issued at 12:08 a.m. and will continue through noon Saturday.

...FREEZING DRIZZLE...SNOW AND STRONG WINDS OVERNIGHT WILL CAUSE TRAVEL PROBLEMS OVER PORTIONS OF CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN MINNESOTA...

LIGHT FREEZING DRIZZLE WILL OCCUR FOR A FEW HOURS EARLY THIS MORNING ACROSS CENTRAL AND PORTIONS OF SOUTHERN MINNESOTA IN THE WAKE OF A STRONG COLD FRONT. THE FREEZING DRIZZLE WILL TRANSITION TO SNOW ACROSS WEST CENTRAL INTO CENTRAL MINNESOTA. SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OVERNIGHT ARE FORECAST TO BE AN INCH OR LESS. THE FREEZING DRIZZLE WILL LEAD TO VERY SLIPPERY ROADS AND WALKWAYS. IN ADDITION...STRONG NORTHWEST WINDS TO 35 MPH WILL PRODUCE PERIODS OF BLOWING SNOW ACROSS WEST CENTRAL MINNESOTA THAT WILL SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCE VISIBILITY. AREAS MOST SUSCEPTIBLE TO THE BLOWING SNOW WILL BE THOSE WEST OF A LINE FROM LONG PRAIRIE TO LITCHFIELD AND GAYLORD. FINALLY...THE COMBINATION OF COLDER AIR AND STRONG WINDS WILL CAUSE DANGEROUS WIND CHILL READINGS FROM 15 BELOW TO 20 BELOW ZERO SATURDAY MORNING ACROSS THE REGION.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN TWIN CITIES/CHANHASSEN HAS ISSUED A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR FREEZING DRIZZLE AND STRONG WINDS...WHICH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON CST SATURDAY.

* TIMING...LIGHT FREEZING DRIZZLE WILL TRANSITION TO LIGHT SNOW OVERNIGHT. STRONG NORTHWEST WINDS TO 35 MPH WILL DEVELOP AS WELL OVERNIGHT AND PERSIST THROUGH MIDDAY SATURDAY.

* MAIN IMPACT...VERY SLIPPERY ROADS AND WALKWAYS WILL OCCUR EARLY THIS MORNING AS TEMPERATURES PLUMMET INTO THE 20S.

* OTHER IMPACTS...THE STRONG NORTHWEST WINDS WILL CREATE DIFFICULT TRAVEL CONDITIONS ON NORTH-SOUTH HIGHWAYS AND FOR HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES. THE COMBINATION OF COLDER TEMPERATURES AND STRONG WINDS WILL ALSO CAUSE WIND CHILL READINGS IN THE 15 BELOW TO 20 BELOW RANGE SATURDAY MORNING.
