West Metro Veterans Day Happenings

Recognize the national holiday Friday, Nov. 11, by honoring all who have served in the United States Armed Forces.

Here’s a listing of some of the Veterans Day events going on in the west metro. All events are Friday, Nov. 11, unless otherwise noted.

A Salute to Veterans Event

When: 9 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9

Where: , Osseo

Why go: Honor all those who served and see the Army exhibit 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 9 in the parking lot.

Price: Free

 

When: 1:30 p.m. Nov. 9

Where: , St. Louis Park

Why Go: Join local seniors for a presentation of the colors by the Golden Valley Color Guard Post 761. Musical entertainment by Colleen Wold Hiebeler.  Vets are encouraged to wear their uniform or hat representing the military unit.

Price: Free

 

When: 11:15 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 10

Where:

Why go: A special program and music by the will honor our veterans, our American flag and we will remember those who have answered the call to service. Meat Loaf Dinner, dessert and beverage. Call 952-939-1333 for reservations.

Price: $7; all veterans eat free.

 

Honor a Veteran on Veterans Day

When: 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m.

Where: , Osseo

Why go: Bring a photo of your veteran in uniform along with a brief handwritten or typed story about how she or he served their country. The North Hennepin Area Chamber of Commerce will create a Veteran's Wall of Fame display at the Chamber office throughout the month of November. Bob Hope video clips from World War II will be shared. There is no cost to attend and a continental breakfast will be provided. Information will be available about a long-term care benefit for wartime veterans and spouses.

Flag Dedication at Blessed Trinity in Richfield

When: 8:30 a.m.

Where: , Richfield

Why go: Blessed Trinity’s Penn Campus will celebrate Veterans Day with a flag dedication. A school supporter recently installed a flag pole and also donated an American flag. In order to honor their donation and the many veterans who have served our country so bravely over the years, Blessed Trinity kindergarten through third graders will sing "God Bless America" and the Star Spangled Banner at 8:30 a.m. during a special flag dedication. The public is invited.

When: 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Where: , Inver Grove Heights

Why go: Free community breakfast 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., 10 a.m. program. In honor of all U. S. Military Veterans, the Commanders' Task Force and the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs host the Minnesota State Veterans Day Program.

Price: Free

 

When: 9 a.m.

Where: , Excelsior

Why go: Fourth-graders will honor veterans with music and poetry. Guest speakers include Navy veterans and a member of the Minnesota Patriot Guard.

11-11-11 Veteran’s Day

When: 11 a.m.

Where: in Wayzata (located across from Colonial Square in Wayzata)

Why go: A brief ceremony sharing stories and music.

Price: Free

 

Veterans Day Band Concert, Veteran Program

When: 11 a.m.

Where: , Long Lake

Price: Free

 

When: 2 p.m.

Where: , Golden Valley

Price: Free

 

Minnesota Veterans Home – Minneapolis Veterans Day Program

When: 2 p.m.

Where: 5101 Minnehaha Ave. S., Minneapolis in the Building 15 auditorium.

Why go: Guest speaker this year is Col. Rodney Gerdes, refreshments served following the program.

 

Veteran Ceremony

When: 4 p.m.

Where: , Long Lake

 

When: 4 p.m.

Where: , Golden Valley

Why go: The Chester Bird American Legion will hold a ceremony to honor vets.

Price: Free

 

When: 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Where: Brit's Pub, 110 Nicollet Ave, Minneapolis

Why go: Commemorate the peace achieved by Allied Nations with the 1918 signing of the Armistice that ended WWI. Program to include a preview song from the upcoming Minnesota Opera's world premiere of "Silent Night," based on a true story of Christmas Eve 1914, when soldiers united in song and ceased their firing.

Price: No admission charge, food and drink for purchase

 

New Options for PTSD and Wartime Trauma

When: 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Where: Center for Harmonious Living, 12201 Minnetonka Blvd., Minnetonka

Why go: Veteran’s Day event to discuss new options for PTSD and trauma. Event includes speakers, panel, and documentary film showing.

When: 8 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 12

Where: , Golden Valley

Why go: The Calvary Men's Ministry is hosting a breakfast that will feature Chaplain Joel Severson, who currently serves as the Command Chaplain at Fort Snelling. All individuals are invited.

 

Veterans Remembrance Day

When: 1 p.m., Saturday Nov. 12

Where: , Shakopee. Enter park through west entrance.

Why go: Speeches, music and Abraham Lincoln reciting the Gettysburg Address. Tour several historic buildings in the Village of Eagle Creek and observe Thanksgiving preparations. View military displays. Refreshments.

Price: $5 ages 18-64; $3 ages 2-17 and seniors. Veterans and children under 2 free.
