Road Construction Around the Twin Cities and Hudson

What roads should you avoid? Here's the breakdown of detours, repaving and bridge projects by Twin Cities region.

Here is a list of some of current road construction projects, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT), Wisconsin Department of Transportation, Hennepin County and Dakota County.

NORTH

Anoka/Coon Rapids

US 10 in both directions: Nighttime construction work between Greenhaven Road (Anoka) and Hanson Boulevard (Coon Rapids) until Oct. 15. The roadway is reduced to one lane. Roadway is reduced to one lane overnight each day from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Loops and ramps will be closed as necessary. Project involves highway resurfacing and drainage improvements.

Brooklyn Park

Hennepin County Road 30 (93rd Avenue North) in both directions: Major road construction between 6th Avenue Northeast and Xylon Avenue near Brooklyn Park until Oct. 31. The road is closed to traffic. Reconstruction of interchange between US 169 and 93rd Avenue. See detour routes.

Brooklyn Center/Brooklyn Park

MN 252 in both directions: Roadway reduced to one lane between Exit 35C (Brooklyn Center) and 73rd Avenue (Brooklyn Park) until 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11. Northbound 252 at 694 is reduced to one lane from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily and Southbound 252 at 694 is reduced to one lane from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. No OSOW restrictions.

Brooklyn Center

I-694 westbound: Exit ramp closed between Minnesota 100 and Minnesota 252 (Brooklyn Center) until Monday, Oct. 14. Follow the detour signs. Loop from westbound 694 to eastbound 94 is closed.

I-94 westbound: Roadway reduced to one lane between Minnesota 100 and Minnesota 252 (Brooklyn Center) from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekdays, through this Friday, Oct. 11, when it ends at about 5 p.m. It is reduced to one lane on Ramp from Northbound 94 to Westbound 94. No OSOW restrictions.

I-94 westbound: Exit ramp closed between Minnesota 252 and Exit 226 (49th Avenue North) until Monday, Oct. 14. Follow the detour signs. Ramp from westbound 94 to eastbound 694 is closed.

Brooklyn Center/Arden Hills

I-694 in both directions: Major road construction between Minnesota 100 (Brooklyn Center) and I-35W (Arden Hills) until Nov. 1. There is a width limit of 10 feet. Expect delays of uncertain duration. Westbound 694 is single lane nightly between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. and two lanes daily between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. Eastbound 694 will still be restricted to a single lane nightly. Lanes are restricted to one 10-foot lane nightly and two 10-foot lanes daily especially on bridges.

New Brighton/Arden Hills

I-694 westbound: Road closed between Exit 40 (Long Lake Road-New Brighton) and I-35W (Arden Hills), starting Friday, Oct. 11, until Monday, Oct. 14. Follow the detour signs.

Arden Hills/Shoreview

I-694 in both directions: Long-term road construction: Between 35W (Arden Hills) and Exit 104C: Victoria Street (Shoreview). Look out for long-term road construction work until Nov. 15. Width limit 10 feet. There will be ramp closures and non-peak lane closures.

Shoreview

US 10 in both directions: Road closed between I-694 and 35W until Nov. 1. County Road 96 is also closed between Lakeshore Place and the entrance to the North Heights Lutheran Church.

County Road 96: Road closed at US Highway 10 until Nov. 11. County Road 96 is closed between Lakeshore Place and the entrance to the North Heights Lutheran Church.

CENTRAL

Minneapolis

I-94 eastbound: Ramp blocked between Lowry Tunnel and Groveland Avenue (Minneapolis) only on Friday until about 5 a.m. Eastbound prohibited route closed for guardrail repair. Please use other routes. Also northbound Hennepin, southbound Hennepin and northbound Lyndale the ramps to eastbound I-94 also are closed.

I-35W southbound: Roadway reduced to one lane between Exit 15 (Lake Street) and Minnesota 65 (near Minneapolis) for soil boring test. The roadway is reduced to one lane. The left lane is closed. Road maintenance work is in progress from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. on weekdays and Sunday. These closures will continue until 5 a.m. Friday.

St. Paul

I-35E southbound: The southbound 35E entrance ramp closed at Exit 109 (Maryland Avenue-St. Paul) until Dec. 9. Follow the detour signs. It is the southbound 35E entrance ramp from Maryland Avenue to 35E southbound closed. Detour in operation.

I-35E in both directions: Bridge construction: Between Exit 107C: University Avenue and Exit 109: Maryland Avenue (St. Paul). Bridge construction work is in progress until Dec. 31, 2015. The Cayuga Project includes multiple construction sites.

US 52 in both directions: Bridge construction at I-94; Minnesota 803A (St. Paul). Bridge construction work is in progress. Vehicle length limit 35 ft. Until September 15, 2014. The Lafayette Bridge is being replaced. No vehicle or vehicle combinations over 35 feet in length are allowed to use the Lafayette Bridge north of Plato Blvd until the crossover is removed (Early 2014).

61 in both directions: Left lane closed between Warner Road and Lower Afton Road in St. Paul until about 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11.

EAST

Pine Springs

MN 36: Road construction at Hilton Trail (Pine Springs) until Nov. 15. Follow the detour signs. Width limit of 12 feet Southbound Hilton Trail to eastbound Trunk Highway 36 is closed. Detour is westbound 36 to southbound 694, follow both loops to eastbound 36.

MN 36 in both directions: Road construction between I-694 (Pine Springs) and De Montreville Trail (Lake Elmo) until Nov. 15. Width limit is 11 feet.

Oak Park Heights

MN 36: Bridge construction between on Minnesota 95 (near Oak Park Heights) until Sept. 16, 2016. Look out for a new road construction layout. The St. Croix Crossing is being built connecting Oak Park Heights, MN, and St. Joseph, WI.

Oakdale/Stillwater   

MN 5 in both directions: Alternating lane closures between I-694 (Oakdale) and Minnesota 36 (Stillwater) until Nov. 2. There are alternating lane closures. Look out for flaggers. A pilot car is in operation due to road construction work. No OSOW restrictions. Closure is from Minnesota 120 to Minnesota 36. Most work will be done at night, between 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., with occasional daytime work from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

St. Croix County, WI

Southbound Wisconsin 35 and westbound Wisconsin 64: Right lane closed from County V to 150th Avenue until Oct. 31.

Northbound US 63/Eastbound Wisconsin 64: Flagging operations and 15-feet width restrictions until Oct. 19.

Southbound US 63/Westbound Wisconsin 64: Flagging operations and 15-feet width restrictions until Oct. 19.

Northbound Wisconsin 46 to US 12: Flagging operations and 15-feet width restrictions until Nov. 1.

Northbound US 63: lane width restriction of 10 feet from County S to northbound Wisconsin 46 until Nov. 1

Eastbound Wisconsin 64 to St. Croix/Polk County line: Moving lane closure with 15-feet width restriction until Nov. 1.

US 12 to Northbound Wisconsin 46: Flagging operation with 15-feet width restriction until Nov. 1.

Southbound US 63: Moving lane closure with 15-feet width restriction from St. Croix/Polk County line to 260th Street until Nov. 1.

Eastbound Wisconsin 64: Flagging operations with 15-feet width restriction from 200th Street to northbound US 63 until Oct. 19.

Westbound Wisconsin 64: Flagging operations with 15-feet width restrictions from 260th Street to 200th Street until Oct. 19.

Lakeland

I-94: Major road construction: At Wisconsin State Line (Lakeland). Major road construction work is in progress until Nov. 15.

Lakeland/Woodbury   

I-94 westbound: Left lane closed between Exit 250 (Radio Drive-Woodbury) and Minnesota 895A (Lakeland). The roadway is reduced to two lanes until about 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11. No OSOW restrictions.

Maplewood/White Bear Lake

MN 120 in both directions: Intermittent lane closure between I-94 (Maplewood) and Minnesota 244 (White Bear Lake). A lane is closed intermittently. Look out for flaggers. Traffic signal maintenance work is in progress until Nov. 1. Work will occur during non-rush hours and begin at Seventh Street/Minnesota 120 and continue northbound. Please slow down in the work zone area.

SOUTH

Inver Grove Heights

MN 3 in both directions: Major road construction between Minnesota 55 and Minnesota 110; US 952A (Inver Grove Heights). No restrictions for OSOW vehicles.

MN 3 in both directions: Right lane closed between I-494 and Minnesota 110; US 952A (Inver Grove Heights) rom 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays until Oct. 16. Right lane in both northbound and southbound closed between Mendota Road and I-494 due to signal pole construction. No restrictions for OSOW vehicles.

Mendota Heights

Highway 110 at Dodd Road/Highway 169: Resurface, improve signal, construct trail connection. Temporary lane closures through October 2014.

Burnsville

MN 13 in both directions: Construction work between Washburn Avenue and Nicollet Avenue (Burnsville). The roadway is reduced to one lane from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays until Friday, Oct. 11. There are no permit restrictions.

Lakeville

I-35 in both directions: Left lane closed between Exit 85 (Kenwood Trail) and Exit 86 (162nd Street-Lakeville) until Oct. 22. Road construction work is in progress. No OSOW restrictions.

I-35 in both directions: Major road construction between Exit 76 (Deuce Road, near Elko New Market) and Exit 86 (162nd Street in Lakeville) until Nov. 18. Consider using an alternate route. Ramp closures: 185th Street to northbound, northbound 35 ramp to County Road 50.

Cannon Falls

MN 19 in both directions: Road closed to traffic between Minnesota 56 and Minnesota 20 (3 miles west of the Cannon Falls area) until Oct. 18. Culvert replacement, ADA additions and a mill and overlay.

Northfield

MN 19 in both directions: Road closed to traffic between Minnesota 3 (Northfield) and Minnesota 56 (4 miles west of the Cannon Falls area) until Oct. 18. Culvert replacement, ADA additions and a mill and overlay.

Bloomington

I-35W in both directions: Exit ramp closed at Exit 7B (90th Street-Bloomington) starting Friday, Oct. 11, until Monday, Oct. 14. Entrance ramp closed.

Minneapolis/Bloomington

I-494 westbound: Road closed between Exit 2A (24th Avenue South-Minneapolis) and I-35W (Bloomington) starting Friday, Oct. 11, until Monday, Oct. 14. Paving operations. Detour in operation. Traffic will be detoured around the closure via Highway 77 and Highway 62. In addition, northbound I-35W traffic to westbound I-494 will be detoured to westbound Highway 62 and southbound Highway 100.

Minneapolis

Penn Avenue Bridge in both directions: Bridge construction at Trunk Highway 62 until Oct. 12. No OSOW restrictions.

WEST

Shakopee

Highway 169 northbound: Right lane of exit ramp closed at Marschell Road (County Road 17) in Shakopee until Oct. 15, so workers can build a bus ramp. The right lane of the exit ramp is closed.

Minnetonka

I-394 westbound: Major road construction between I-494; US 12 and Exit 1B (Plymouth Road-Minnetonka) until Oct. 31. Follow the detour signs. Lanes have been reduced to 11 feet.

Chanhassen

MN 101 in both directions: Road closed between Pioneer Trail and Lyman Boulevard until Nov. 15.

Waconia

MN 284 in both directions: Road closed between Carver County Road 140 and Carver County Road 32 (near Waconia) until Nov. 15. Road Closed on Highway 284 between County Road 10 and 8th Street

Minnetrista

MN 7: Road closed at Hennepin County Road 11 (Minnetrista) starting Monday until Oct. 31. Construction of roundabout project. Detour will be in place.

St. Louis Park

MN 7 in both directions: Road reconstruction at Louisiana Avenue interchange in St. Louis Park. The road is being reconstructed until Oct. 31, 2014.

Minnetonka

I-394 westbound: Major road construction between I-494; US 12 and Exit 1B (Plymouth Road-Minnetonka) until Oct. 31. Major road construction work is in progress. Follow the detour signs. The loop from northbound 494 to westbound 394 is closed. Lanes have been reduced to 11 feet.
