Book Clubs Begin Soon at Maple Grove Library

Adult book clubs to bring group discussion opportunity for fiction and mystery book readers.

Do you love to read a good book, but wish you had someone to share your thoughts with or maybe debate the story line?

If so, the has three different book clubs for adults starting up in September.

Maple Grove Mystery Book Club facilitator June Long said if you like to read all kinds of different material, you should consider joining any one of the three books clubs offered at the library. The fall book clubs consist of a fiction group, a mystery group and an afternoon group.

“We all come from different walks of life and different backgrounds, but we share a common bond, a love for reading,” Long said.

New this fall, the book clubs will no longer meet at Barnes and Noble but at the Maple Grove Library.

“We all have our favorite authors. We learn so much by reading new and different books that maybe we wouldn’t normally read on our own,” Long said.

Long, who has been part of the mystery book club for the last eight years, said she loves the monthly discussions almost as much as reading the book itself. And she said members of the book
clubs get to have a say in picking the books to be read each month.

“I think it broadens you, you learn so much from the discussions, just hearing others points of view and their thoughts can be enlightening,” Long said.

President of the Friends of Maple Grove Deb Hjortland recommends joining one of the local book clubs for a couple different reasons.

“Book clubs are a great way to be engaged with your fellow neighbors and support your local library,” said Hjortland.

Long says the only time commitment is reading the book, and you don’t even have to finish it to be able to come to the monthly discussions.

“It’s not a requirement to finish the book, but it does make for better discussions, the more we have involved and participating,” said Long.

Hjortland says a book club is for anyone who “loves reading” and enjoys analyzing books.

“You get to read books you normally wouldn’t read, its lots of fun and very informal. You can come even if you haven’t finished it,” said Hjortland.

The book clubs meet year round except for the month of December.
