9 Ways to Embrace Skiing in Three Rivers Parks

From cross country to Nordic to beginner lessons, the Three Rivers Park District offers several skiing options during the winter of 2012-2013.

Morning Traveling Nordic Ski Club

The Morning Traveling Ski Club meets on Wednesday mornings, Jan. 2 through Feb. 20, from 10-11:30 a.m. The club will meet at Elm Creek Park Reserve, Maple Grove, on Jan. 2 and 9, at Hyland Lake Park Reserve, Bloomington, on Jan. 16 and 23, at French Regional Park, Plymouth, on Jan. 30 and Feb. 6, and at Baker Park Reserve, Medina, on Feb. 13 and 20. Cost for the eight-session club is $90 and reservations are required. Call 763-559-6700 to make a reservation and reference activity number #122511-02. This program is for ages 18+.

Classic Beginner I: Basics

Sunday, Dec.30, from 10-11:30 a.m., at Elm Creek Park Reserve, Maple Grove. This lesson covers cross-country skiing basics, including putting on equipment, falling down and getting up, diagonal stride, stopping, turning, and a brief introduction to small hills. For novice skiers and those who want to review. Cost is $18 or 28 with ski rental. This lesson is for ages 13+. Reference activity number #122388-06. 

Ski-Skating I: Basics

Thursday, Jan. 3, from 7-9 p.m., at Elm Creek Park Reserve, Maple Grove. Learn beginning ski-skating techniques, including efficient edging, gliding and control. Prior classic skiing experience is recommended. Cost is $22 or $37 with ski rental. This lesson is for ages 13+. Reference activity number #122391-07. 

Adaptive Nordic Ski Club

 The Adaptive Nordic Ski Club meets on Wednesday evenings, Jan. 2 through Feb. 20, 2012 from 6:30-8 p.m., at Elm Creek Park Reserve, Maple Grove.  Cost for this eight-session club is $40 and reservations are required. Evening Nordic Ski Club

Nordic ski clubs are hosted in the north and south metro. The Elm Creek Nordic Ski Club meets Tuesday evenings, Jan. 1 through Feb. 19, from 7-8:30 p.m., at Elm Creek Park Reserve, Maple Grove.  The Hyland Nordic Ski Club meets Thursday evenings, Jan. 3 through Feb. 21, from 7-8:30 p.m., at Hyland Lake Park Reserve, Bloomington. Cost for this eight-session club is $90 and reservations are required.
