Fighting Cancer

Masters Marci Nelson and Patrick Hoth, owner/instructors with World Taekwondo Academy (WTA), attended the Randy Shaver Cancer and Research Foundation’s annual Board Meeting last week Wednesday.  WTA was granted a seat on the Board due in part to raising over $30,000 during its Million Kicks for Cancer drive for the Foundation last summer.

WTA became involved in part because the founder of WTA, Great Grandmaster Byung Yul Lee passed on to pancreatic cancer.  His son, Grandmaster Eui Yong Lee, who is the president of WTA, wanted to raise funds for cancer research.  Master Nelson recently finished her chemotherapy treatments for cancer.  She was diagnosed one day before the Million Kicks for Cancer event.

The Shaver Foundation was able to give over $300,000 to local community and research organizations.  Both Master Nelson and Master Hoth were highly impressed and humbled with the efforts of those involved with the Foundation.  Master Nelson runs and teaches out of WTA’s Eden Pairie location, and Master Hoth runs and teaches out of WTA’s St. Michael location.
