A city-by-city look at how voters cast their ballot for the operating and technology levy requests in the 2012 election.
Spanning eight cities, the Osseo School District is considered the fifth largest district in the state. All or parts of the cities of Maple Grove, Brooklyn Park, Osseo, Plymouth, Brooklyn Center, Rogers, Dayton and Corcoran are considered part of District 279. During the Nov. 6, 2012 general election, voters in the Osseo School District decided against two questions for levy requests – an operating and technology levy. Here's how residents in a selection of Minnesota cities voted on the proposed Voter ID amendment to the state Constitution, which would have required photo ID at polling places. Statewide, the ballot measure failed to pass the 50 percent level of support it needed (46.34 percent with all but three Minnesota precincts' results). But if citizens in 14 of these 36 Patch communities had their way, the state Constitution would have a new amendment. District 34 voters have reelected State Rep. Kurt Zellers and Rep. Joyce Peppin as well as State Sen. Warren Limmer in the 2012 general election. Senate District 34 Seat Incumbent Warren Limmer (R) will be returning to office as Minnesota District 34 Senator after winning over Sharon Bahensky (DFL) in the Nov. 6 general election, according to unofficial results posted on the Minnesota Secretary of State website. Limmer received 25,847 (57.04%) of the votes, Bahensky with 19,406 (42.83%). Limmer was first elected to the senate in February 1995. Voters in the Osseo School District have decided incumbent Dean Henke, Linda Etim and Jacki Girtz will serve as the next District 279 School Board members, according to unofficial results posted on the Minnesota Secretary of State website. Henke received 24,220 votes (23 percent), Etim received 22,886 votes (21.74 percent) and Girtz received 21,023 votes (19.97 percent). Other candidate results included a close fourth by Robert Gerhart with 20,940 votes (19.89 percent) followed by Collette Guyott-Hempel with 15,426 votes (14.65 percent). After facing a recount in the 2012 primary, Jennifer DeJournett won over Rick Theisen in the Nov. 6 general election for the District 2 Henneipn County Park Commissioner seat. Jennifer DeJournett received 31,851 (52.36%) of the votes against Rick Theisen who received 28,550 (46.94%) of the votes, according to unofficial results on the Hennepin County website. After months of campaigning, incumbents Erik Johnson and LeAnn Sargent have been voted on to continue as Maple Grove City Council members, according to unofficial results posted on the Minnesota Secretary of State website. Erik Johnson received 13,379 votes (28.55%) and LeAnn Sargent received 9,511 votes (20.30%). “Maple Grove is a wonderful city. Voters in the Osseo School District 279 have decided to vote down two school funding requests for the district. The operating levy request, according to the District 279 website, was to “increase academic achievement” in the district was on the Nov. 6 ballot along as was the technology levy request was to expand classroom technology. The operating levy request, question one on the ballot, failed by 116 votes with 50.09% of voters (33,908) voting no to the levy and 49.91% of voters (33,792) casting a yes vote, according to the unofficial results on the Minnesota Secretary of State website. In two judicial races during the Nov. 6 general election, both Elizabeth V. Cutter and Lois Conroy emerged with top votes, according to unofficial results from the Minnesota Secretary of State website. Cutter received 68.45 percent of the vote. Incumbent Lorie Skjerven Gildea will retain her role as Minnesota Supreme Court Justice in her win over Dan Griffith in the Nov. 6 general election, according to unofficial results posted on the Minnesota Secretary of State website. In the statewide race, Skjerven Gilda received 59.99 percent of the votes and Dan Griffith received 39.62 percent of the vote. Skjerven Gildea was appointed Chief Justice January 2006 and her term was set to expire January 2013. Other statewide judicial winners included incumbent Barry Anderson for Associate Justice - Supreme Court 1 (Seat 1) over Dean Barkley. For me, I don't have much trust in the district right now. The uproar over standards based grading is largely being ignored by the administration so it is amazing to me that they would ask for this much money with that debate still ongoing not to mention the bad economy. The threats of larger class sizes, reductions in programs etc. only alienate me further and make me seriously consider removing…   more ›
