Whole Foods Market Confirms Maple Grove Store Opening

The natural and organic foods supermarket plans on opening the 34,000 square-foot store in 2013 in the former Ultimate Electronics location.

Whole Foods Market confirmed today in a press release that it is planning on opening a new store in Maple Grove.

The 34,000 square-foot store will be located at 12201 Elm Creek Boulevard in Maple Grove, the site former Ultimate Electronics building.

The business anticipating a mid-2013 opening in Maple Grove, according to Whole Foods Public Relations Manager Kate Klotz.

“The Twin Cities continues to be an area of growth for us,” said Michael Bashaw, Midwest regional president in a press release. “We’re extremely excited to expand our offering of natural and organic products to an even greater customer base and to do so in a bustling area such as Maple Grove.”

The lease on the Maple Grove location was finalized last week, according to The Shoppes at Arbor Lakes Marketing Director Jennie Zafft who said Whole Foods will be a "really good fit" for the area.

Whole Foods Market stated a fifth Minnesota location is also being built in downtown Minneapolis at Hennepin and Washington.

The store will feature natural and organic foods and focus on fresh, organic fruits and vegetables, specialty items, high-quality meats and poultry, everyday pantry staples and sustainable seafood, according to the business. The store will also contain a separate liquor store with a variety of wines and specialty beers.

“This new store will not only reflect the qualities and attributes of our existing stores, it will help us continue our commitment to our local communities,” said Bashaw. “From an increased store size, to a varying product mix and our unparalleled community support initiatives, we can’t wait to share the Whole Foods Market experience with even more Minnesotans.”

Whole Foods Market estimates it will add approximately 125 additional jobs in the Twin Cities, according to the press release. The company also discussed a “commitment” to each of the communities it serves – such as quarterly Community Support Days when a percentage of sales for one day are donated to a local nonprofit as well as regular donations to local food banks.

“These stores will allow us to deepen our connections within the community,” Bashaw said. “We look forward to building strong relationships with our neighborhood partners in our new communities.”

I am so delighted to have Whole Foods in Maple Grove! I am a celiac and I first went to Whole Foods by Lake Calhoun. Now I go to the one by Ridgedale. I am excited to have one where I live! I will be there often! I especially like your fat free balsomic vinegar dressing. Deb Kropp

Great! I just added another stop to my grocery shopping--a hobby of mine. Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Byerlys, and Cub Foods. I can't wait!

It's right next door to Trader Joe's. What's the point in that? How about off 30 and 94? Or Bass Lk Rd and 101? Or 10 other better places in MG. Seriously... plus that parking lot is already jam packed from the Trader Joe's cars - where do they think people will park?

I think next to Trader Joe's is a perfect location. They both offer great food but not always the same food. The items I can't get at one I get at the other. Now I won't have to drive across town to get my shopping done. I think they will share a lot of customers. Good Marketing choice. I do wish they had better parking, but with both stores there I will use the ramp.

I think this will be great addition to Maple Grove. Excellent reflection on the type of consumers we want shopping in our city.

Please explain what you mean by "excellent reflection on the type of consumers we want shopping in our city." Is there some type of person you don't want shopping in Maple Grove?

I haven't visited a Whole Foods Market in Minnesota yet - I did check one out in San Diego a few times. For those who shop there, what's your recommended "must check out" items when the Maple Grove location opens?

I live in Champlin, I can hardly wait for this store to open in Maple Grove. There is only one small health food store in my area.

this is the best! I agree...after shopping at Whole Foods, going to Trader Joe's is a total let down. NOT the same product, by far!

I think it is a great idea to have Whole Foods in Maple Grove. In CA, it is typically to have WF near TJ's. WholeFoods offers quite a bit of a different selection and vise versa. I look forward to it!
