Power is still out in our neighborhood near Weaver Lake Park and it is 2:45. Don't know why our neighbors across Dunkirk with Wright Hennepin never seem to lose power as much as we do.

We are in the northwest corner of MG and have Wright Hennepin. In the five years we've lived here, I don't think we've ever lost power for more than a minute, and I only noticed because some clocks reset.

As an fyi, we've had some updates to the story. Also, from a reader, via email:

Our power in the neighborhood goes out 2 to 3 times per month. There's something larger wrong. They just fix it each time and we're without power for 2 to 3 hours each time. The longest outage this Summer was about 7 hours. Hard to believe we're fairly new neighborhoods with buried service. We lose power all the time.

I'm in the area near 101/89th Avenue (Gladstone subdivision) and power was off between 12:15 and 2:00pm. Xcel has a handy outage map on their website, which tells visitors a bit of information on when they anticipate the power to be restored.

4:20pm and power is still out in Dunkirk/Weaver Lake Rd area. The 5th time this summer that we've lost power! My wife is in a wheelchair and was stranded in the driveway for 3 hours before I could leave work and get home to open the garage door to get her inside. Xcel MUST do something about this ridiculous lack of responsible attention to their plant and customers!

Yuma CT South of Weaver Lake School out since 12:10 Everyone needs to call excel and file an excessive outage report (6 time in a year.) Have been out 8 times since March. Xcel needs to replace its substandard equipment (underground and switching)

Dunkirk & 93rd area, near the Walmart, and I don't know how long it was out today, as I was gone, but we seem to lose power very often out here! As of an hour or so ago, the lights were still out at 94th & Dunkirk and at Weaver Lake & Dunkirk, but oddly enough, they were working at 89th & Dunkirk.

Traffic signals at Dunkirk Lane/Weaver Lake Road and Dunkirk Lane/89th Avenue are out. Avoid this area during rush hour if you value your time. :)

Hey Chad. Their power outage map is useless. I've been without power since 12:15. According to their map I've had power back at 1:52 and again at 4:30. I can assure you we've had no power here. Xcel is aweful. We've been losing power routinely for months now.

Mike, same here. Power was on when I got home from work. Then it shut off, came on for a few seconds, and then off for about 5-10 minutes. Now it's back on, and let's hope it's for good. All of this on/off is damaging to electronic devices.

Power's been out for more than 6 hours at 86th and Lake Ridge. Came up for about 10 seconds an hour ago and then gone again. I'd like to know what's so difficult about keeping your product online. Maybe I'll go down to Cousineau's and ask the line crew....

I didn't know there was an outage map. Why would they use an outage map to report a problem when we can't use our computers without power?

We live in the area between Rainbow and Church of the Open Door. Power went out at noon and was not restored until 8:00 p.m. This was the eighth outage since March, none of them are short, somewhere between three and seven hours. We have lived in our home for ten years and the outages here are excessive. I filed a complaint via mobile phone last night to Xcel.

Karen, the outage map is probably aimed toward family/friends who have Internet access and can relay information OR to the many of us with smartphones who can use the cellular data network to report/check the outage.

The only way I was able to access the outage map was with my smart phone. Not everyone has one. And yes, these outages are far too frequent. Somebody needs to do something.

I agree that the outage map isn't the best solution, nor is the implementation all that great, but it sure beats waiting on hold only to have some customer service person tell me that "they're working on it." Yes, the outages in this area have been far too frequent given the young age of the electrical infrastructure. Seems like poor capacity planning on Xcel's part, or poor installation work. Either way, they need to address the problem.

I would add that the map should show which neighborhoods or houses are impacted. Surely they must know which conduit supplies power to each house.

Our power was off for 6 hours on 9-18-12. We are located near Weaver Lake off of 82nd and Everest. This was the 8th power outage in our neighborhood this year, with a few of them lasting over 3 hours. With all the technology that we are fortunate to have at our fingertips these days, you would think that electricity would keep up at that same pace. I could even tolerate the occasional minor disruptions in service, however, outages lasting more than 3 hours should be viewed as unacceptable (unless there was a major weather event causing the outage).
