OMGBA 5A Boys Win MYAS Grade State Tournament

The team beat Chanhassen in the finals 55-38 of the 7A division.

The boys 5A basketball team won the State Championship in the 7A division the weekend of March 10-11.

The team was seeded second in the tournament and beat Chanhassen in the final game, 55-38. 

The team included Coach Dave Adams along with Assistant Coaches Brent Otto and Eric Born. Players were Nate Adams, Tyler Born, Kyle Dreyer, Chaz Franklin, Ian Lim, Daniel Marxen, Bennett Otto, Dylan Phimister, Jared Rainey and Grant Simek.

“This is a tremendously talented group of basketball players that are serious about basketball, but also a great group of kids that get along well with each other and play together as a team,” Coach Dave Adams said. “The coaches really enjoyed working with the boys throughout the season, which began in early October, and are extremely proud of what they were able to accomplish this season! Any coach would be lucky to have any one of these kids on their team.”

  • The team played in 13 tournaments this season, finishing with a 39-6 record.
  • The group finished first in seven of the tournaments, including the grade state championship on March 11. The boys also came in second in five tournaments and third in one tournament.
  • 28 of 45 games were played against the top 16 teams in the state.
  • Average margin of victory this season was 25 points
  • State tournament run included victories over the 15 seed Shakopee (36-25), the 7 seed Armstrong (51-32), the 3 seed Minneapolis FAB (44-34), and the 5 seed Chanhassen (55-38).
