October Events at the Maple Grove Library

Books, inventions and murder are on the menu for October 2012 at the Hennepin County Library Maple Grove.

 

The following are events scheduled in October at Hennepin County Library – Maple Grove. All events are free and open to the public, some do require preregistration.

Preschool Storytime
Tuesdays, Oct. 2-Nov. 13, 10:30 a.m.
For children ages 4 to 6. Help your preschooler get ready to read.

Friends Meeting
Thursday, Oct. 4, 7 p.m.
Join fellow library enthusiasts to hear what's happening at Hennepin County Library. Help support your local library by planning and volunteering at book sales, programs, and special events.

Toddler Storytime
Thursdays, Oct. 4-Nov. 15, 10:30-11 a.m.
For children ages 2 and 3. Interact with your toddler to nurture a love of books. Learn letters, sounds, and new words.

Used Book Sale
Saturday, Oct. 6, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
Bargain hunters and book lovers take note: the Friends of the Library will hold a sale of hundreds of adult and children's fiction and nonfiction books in hardcover and paperback. Most books, withdrawn from the Hennepin County Library system or donated by the public, will be priced $1 or less. Funds raised will benefit the library.

Murder on Main Street Author Talk: Monica Ferris
Monday, Oct. 15, 6:30 p.m.
Ferris is an author with many hats and names: Mary Monica Pulver, Mary Kuhfeld, Margaret Frazer or Ferris. She’ll talk about her current “Threadbare,” which features the popular sleuth, Betsy Devonshire. Ferris’ newest book, “And Then You Dye,” will be published December 2012.

Make This: Anime and Manga Drawings
Thursday, Oct. 18, 2-4 p.m.
Registration required; begins Sept. 20; limit 20. Grades 7-12. Work with comic artist Adam Sward on developing and refining your anime drawing skills. Practice character and concept development, composition, drawing, inking and coloring. No previous drawing experience necessary.
This project is funded with money from Minnesota's Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund. Presented in collaboration with the Minnetonka Center for the Arts.

Paint It Green: Inventor's Workshop
Saturday, Oct. 20, 2-3 p.m.
Registration required; begins Sept. 22; limit 30. K-grade 6. Create your own invention from a variety of fun and unusual scraps. Assemble your invention using tape, glue and wire. Materials provided.
This project is funded with money from Minnesota's Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund. Presented in collaboration with ArtStart.

Teen Anime Club
Saturdays, Oct. 20 and Nov. 17, 2:30-4 p.m.
Grades 7-12. Can't get enough anime? Join up to watch and review brand-new anime episodes, share artwork and hang out with other anime fans.

Fridays, Oct. 26-Nov. 16, 10:15-10:45 a.m.
Registration required;limit 20. For children from birth to 24 months.

Murder on Main Street Author Talk: Ellen Hart
Saturday, Oct. 27, 1 p.m. at Maple Grove Library
Award-winning Hart will talk about her most recent book, “Rest for the Wicked.” She will offer a glimpse into the "writer's life" and her thoughts on the modern mystery novel. Q&A will follow.
