Maple Grove Police Release Sketch of Suspect in Attempted Assault

Investigators believe a white male attempted an assault June 21 near Rice Lake.

The Maple Grove Police Department released a sketch of the man who allegedly attempted to assault a woman near Rice Lake on Thursday.

The suspect of the incident was described as a white male, approximately 5 feet, 6 inches to 6 feet tall, and in his late teens or early 20s. At the time of the incident, the suspect was wearing a black T-shirt and jeans.

Police are urging the public to contact the Hennepin County Dispatch at 763-525-6216 with any information about the incident.

The police department wants to remind runners to stay focused while exercising.

"Try not to become preoccupied in the physical activity of putting one foot in front of the other," stated a spokesperson for Maple Grove Police in a release issued Friday, June 22. "When you start to do this, you don't realize what is happening around you."

Run with a friend, carry a whistle or vary your route and pattern of jogging in order to avoid potentially dangerous situations, police suggested.

"Most crimes are crimes of opportunity," the release continued. "If you eliminate the opportunity, you greatly reduce your chances of becoming a victim."
