Area resident Deb Thompson has found a diamond ring in a pair of secondhand capri pants, but she says she can't bring herself to keep it. Now, she is working with Goodwill to locate the ring’s original owner, who donated much more than they realized.

Thompson bought the pants June 18 at the Goodwill store in Coon Rapids and discovered the ring after returning home. A jeweler estimates the ring is worth between $5,000 and $6,500.

Thompson says she can't keep the ring. Instead, she wants to find the owner so she can hear the story of how the ring got there.

Goodwill Director of Marketing Lisa Ritter says the ring’s owner still hadn't been identified.

Hundreds of inquiries have poured in from across the country, but Ritter says the owner likely made the donation at a Goodwill store in Coon Rapids or elsewhere in the Twin Cities.
