Certified Nurse-Midwives to Begin Seeing Patients at Fairview Clinics – Bass Lake

New options available for expectant mothers and families in Bass Lake, Maple Grove and surrounding areas

Bass Lake, Minn. (July 2012) – Fairview Clinics – Bass Lake is pleased to announce an extension of services to include certified nurse-midwives (CNMs). While Fairview has offered midwife services for years, they had not been available at the Bass Lake location until now. Fairview’s midwives deliver babies at University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview.

A CNM is a registered nurse who has a Master of Science degree in midwifery and holds a national certification from the American College of Nurse-Midwives.

“The addition of certified nurse-midwife services allows women to have an active partner throughout their entire pregnancy,” said Clinic Administrator Amy Streeter, “one who is an accredited expert and is also passionate about maintaining a woman’s whole wellness.”

Benefits of choosing a midwife:

  • Low rates of c-sections
  • Highly skilled in drug-free comfort tools and may offer pain medication in labor, including epidurals
  • Water births
  • Group prenatal visits

Midwives offer guidance on proper nutrition, exercise, sleep and travel. They encourage women to make birthing choices unique to their personal needs.

Certified nurse-midwives also provide:

  • Gynecological exams
  • Birth control, family planning and pre-conception counseling
  • Primary care services, including treating infections and depression
  • Peri-menopause counseling

Fairview Clinics – Bass Lake is located at 6320 Wedgwood Road N, Maple Grove, Minn. To schedule an appointment with a CNM, call the clinic at 763-268-0400. Fairview.org.
